Guadeloupe Augustine “Gus” Guerrero was born on December 12,
1859, in Alviso, California. He began his athletic career as a long distance runner and walker. In 1884, for unknown reasons, he pushed a wheelbarrow from San Francisco to New York.
It was reported that Guerrero was with the New York baseball Giants in the time of Manager Jim Multrie, who left the team in 1891. Guerrero was working as a masseur in New York during that time. In 1904, he was said to have been with Giants, as an athletic trainer, for nearly seven years. 1904 would be his last year with the Giants.
After Guerrero left the Giants, he worked at an athletic club in New York. He would die, in 1914, in California.
